VAT FREE – Look a little closer!!

Some of our competitors claim to be UK wide companies while also being VAT free. How can this be?

As you know, there is a special tax in the UK, almost every large business has to pay. This tax is called VAT (value added tax). There is a law in Britain, which makes it obligatory to register for VAT if your business has a turnover of more than £70,000 of taxable sales.

Please take the time to go read the lines listed below to see how you are being misled

An average booking is £60 + £10 travel per hour = £70 per hour
VAT threshold of £70,000 divided by £70 = 1000 hours sold in a given year
Booking are on a 2 hour minimum basis, thus 500 bookings per year
500 bookings per year divided by 12 months = 41 bookings per month.
Breaking the month roughly into 4 weeks this then = 10 bookings per week.
This suggests that any butler company with VAT free status will probably only 10 – 15 butlers.
This leaves very little scope for covering a last minute problem should one of their butlers become sick, have an accident or not be able to fulfil a booking for any reason. This happens a lot!

This certainly does not suggest a UK wide operation. If an organisation is happy to mislead you in this, then they will probably be happy to mislead you in other areas too.

This is why at Butlers In the Buff we are regularly called upon to fill bookings for clients who have been let down at the very last minute by a so called ‘UK wide premier butler company’.

REMEMBER

A nice website, clever wording and a plethora of promises does not equal the quality service you deserve.
